          Yu Shouqi, a graduate of Hunan Normal University, is currently a member of the Hunan Provincial Institute of Cultural History and a National First-Class Artist. He is a member of China Artron Art Association, Hunan Artists Association, Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Chinese Calligraphers Association, Foreign Academician of the Royal Academy of Painting in France, Foreign Academician of the St. Petersburg Art Research Institute in Russia, Permanent Foreign Art Consultant of the Royal Art Foundation in the UK, and a specially commissioned calligrapher and painter for China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage National Gift Program. He serves as a guest expert in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s Art Talent Expert Database, a National First-Class Art Master, an Outstanding Cultural Figure by UNESCO, a Centennial Meritorious Artist in Party Building, a Global Chinese Art Leader, and a National Art Model. Recognized as an Art Heritage Figure by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, he also holds titles such as Ambassador for International Cultural Communication, Top Ten Meritorious Artists of the People’s Republic, Special Artist for State Gifts, Research Fellow at the China Oriental Culture Research Association, Visiting Professor for CCTV’s "Art Inheritance" program, Chief Expert of the National Art Title Examination Center, Representative Artist in the National Art Circle, Chairman of the National Artist Credit Management Committee, Honorary Chairman of the China Modern Culture Society, Vice President of the World Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Institute, and recipient of the "People’s Artist" honor. Additionally, he serves as Standing Vice Chairman of the Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Art Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance Committee.

          翰墨正能量 丹青泊诗韵——记著名书画家喻寿奇


          能作翰墨者师碑帖是大道,能作丹青者师造化是真谛。当代著名书画家喻寿奇先生,就是一位书画双修,把碑帖学养与丹青要妙统摄一体的大手笔!先生不但有精彩的书画实践成果,也有书画理论研究的高度。实践出真知,出版书画精论,可以引领艺术创作渊远流长!既是一位创作力饱满的书画家,也是一位致力于文化传播的功勋者!

          他的书法碑学汉隶十碑!把东汉隶俊雅拔秀的品位复作的惟妙唯肖。整体以曹全碑、乙瑛碑、史晨碑、礼器碑这类方整严谨的汉隶碑为习成,所以写得一波三披分明,蚕头燕尾飞仪,非常正规,也非常有书写品位,以碑立骨,极见精气神!

          当代隶书创作,有两个问题需要纠正,一是把隶书写得过于规整,字字同质,笔笔同体,写出来的隶书就失去了艺术的灵性,结果成了隶书的印刷体!再一个问题就是把隶书写得过于粗糙,不但失去了笔法的精湛,结构也变得相当松散,带有江湖书风,很不雅观。现在看喻寿奇先生的隶书作品,用来抄作主席语录,写得正大气象,笔作劲卓,墨写弘音,把隶书激越精神的境界表现得非常精彩。

          喻先生的狂草书法也足以令人折服,大笔一挥师怀素,写得铁点银钩,高低有趣。可以在一划之内变起伏于锋梢,也可以在一点之间殊衄挫于毫芒!也写毛体书法的豪情壮志,书以抒情,草书畅志,左出右盼如惊电,状如楚汉相攻战!笔墨同时用神力铺陈,把书法的速度与力度统一在一起,可见飘风骤雨惊竦竦,落花飞雪何茫茫!草书大手笔,都是这种书法类万物之象的精湛!

          他画山水,外师造化中得心源。非常重视写生的积淀,把观看真山真水的视觉经验,提炼成丰富无限的创作资源,搜尽奇峰打草稿!在此基础上,再作笔墨渲染,就可以意在笔先,遂心应手。无论作溪山行旅,还是写云上山巅,都可以通过娴熟的骨法用笔,把山水的精气神塑造得相当饱满,然后再给予随类赋彩,终是气韵生动的典范。在他的山水里游目聘怀,信可乐矣!心入画,诗入画,不但画得古风悠具,而且富有现代主义气息,民居红屋,隔水故乡,笔墨当随时代,这就是例证。

          先生画花鸟作品,可以兼工带写作荷花、作紫藤,以书入画,笔力雄劲,以禅赋色,清幽雅观。画里是精湛的技法,画外是精彩的文化。一池荷苍,纤尘不染,寓意法道,一目了然。写意大鸡图,色彩饱满,神态上佳,可以夺物象之精神,也可以掠物象之体貌!丹青焕神,莫过如此。大家风彩,真实不虚!

          Ink and Brush: The Essence of Poetry —— A Tribute to Master Calligrapher Yu Shouqi.

          For those versed in ink art, the study of stele rubbings is the ultimate path; for those mastering brushwork, nature’s essence is the true truth. Contemporary master Yu Shouqi exemplifies this dual mastery—integrating stele studies with artistic refinement. His works not only showcase exceptional craftsmanship but also demonstrate profound theoretical depth. True knowledge comes from practice, and his publications illuminate artistic creation. He is both a creative artist and a cultural pioneer. His calligraphy masterpieces—ten Han dynasty stele rubbings—faithfully recreate the elegant style of Eastern Han clerical script. Drawing inspiration from rigorous stele rubbings like Cao Quan Stele, Yi Ying Stele, Shi Chen Stele, and Liqi Stele, his strokes exhibit clear wave-like rhythm and swallow-tail elegance, embodying refined calligraphic taste with stele-like structure that radiates vitality. Two critical issues plague modern clerical script: rigid uniformity reduces artistry to mere printing, while excessive coarseness compromises brushwork precision and creates unrefined, informal styles reminiscent of folk calligraphy. Yu Shouqi’s contemporary clerical script, however, captivates with grandeur—his characters radiate majestic momentum through vigorous brushstrokes and resonant ink tones, perfectly capturing the dynamic essence of this ancient script. His wild cursive script also commands respect, echoing the bold strokes of Master Huaisu, creating striking contrast between metallic hooks and silver hooks with dynamic variations in height. In a single stroke, one can transform the brush tip into undulating waves; in a single dot, one can create dramatic contrasts with the finest hairs! This embodies the grand passion of Mao-style calligraphy. Calligraphy expresses emotions, while cursive script conveys aspirations—leftward strokes leap like lightning, resembling the Chu-Han Contention! The simultaneous exertion of ink and brush unifies speed and power, evoking the awe of sudden storms and the vastness of falling petals. Masterful cursive script captures nature’s essence through this artistry! His landscape paintings draw inspiration from nature’s essence, emphasizing field studies to distill visual experiences into boundless creative resources. After sketching from natural peaks, he applies ink washes to achieve preconceived artistic vision. Whether depicting mountain streams or cloud-covered summits, his skillful brushwork brings landscapes to life with vibrant energy, then colors them with seasonal hues, creating masterpieces of dynamic vitality. Immersing oneself in his landscapes is truly delightful! His works blend poetic sensibility with modernist flair, as seen in rustic red houses and waterside hometowns—brushwork evolves with the times. His flower-and-bird paintings masterfully combine meticulous craftsmanship with freehand brushwork, using calligraphic techniques to imbue colors with Zen-inspired elegance. The lotus pond, spotless and symbolic of Daoist principles, stands before us. The freehand rooster painting, rich in color and spirit, captures both essence and form.
